David Foster Wallace February 21, — September 12, was an American author of novels, short stories and essays, and a university professor of English and creative writing. Wallace is widely known for his novel Infinite Jest , which Time magazine cited as one of the best English-language novels from to The Los Angeles Times ' s David Ulin called Wallace "one of the most influential and innovative writers of the last twenty years". Wallace grew up in Illinois and attended Amherst College.

Even if we take this statement at face value, it works in two ways. The way I like to approach it is to recall those still watches of the night, when I ask myself if I feel ashamed at never having finished his 1,plus page novel, Infinite Jest , murmur "only a very little bit", and then go back to sleep.
